#0066, Completed, 2025

Inspired by Junyi Ishigami’s ‘Art Biotop Water Garden,’ we carefully crafted a field of organic geometries throughout the waterlogged site. Where water was collecting on site, the design specified a cut action to create depressions where stormwater will collect. The depressions are connected with a simple PVC pipe connecting the rain gardens — when one depression fills, excess stormwater is directed to the next depression. The cut soil from the depressions is carefully placed to create a variety of spaces in the front yard creating a sense of interiority while remaining permeable to the public. Underneath the jute in the images is a custom-tailored seed mix including foxgloves, columbines, Virginia bluebells, a variety of clovers and fescues to stabilize the soils.
